Working hard - in the last 5 days I've devised, sourced and mixed a show, travelled to Swansea and back, performed three shows (two with Skinphony (one on trapeze) and one solo), done a photoshoot, written a short film for Uni, attended lectures, and am now in the process of mixing audio and visuals for the next show this Friday - Flame and Flesh, which I hope to see some of you at.

Anyway, attention industrial types. I need suggestions for industrially type tracks (thinking in the vein of SPK, Nurse with Wound etc) that are abstracty soundscapes with a hint of beauty? Something that is not entirely dark and menacing, with maybe a little light shining through. Any help appreciated!

In other news Diamanda Galas kicks Amy Winehouse's skinny ass.

Cranes stuff off Self-Non-Self might work?

To be honest I was carrying a massive suitcase, giant fans and a trapeze, and didn't have a second to think all weekend, so probably wouldn't have been much good to you unless the item was about the size of a chocolate bar and needed to be dropped at Swansea station!

I like Architect for that kind of thing and, if it's not too ambient/downtempo, Legion (a.k.a. Lagowski).

Inspirationally productive, miss!

Just wondering, do you by any chance know the shedule for this Friday? I'm guessing people can enter all through the night.

Something off Raining Blood for Die Form. Clock DVA tracks all kinda merge into one for me tbh, although they are good, as does most of that sort of thing tbh! Attrition I haven't listened to for a long and I can only remeber the tracks which stand out, i.e. the ones with lyrics and conventional song structures which isn't what you want I'm guessing.

Sorry I can't be more help. When do you need this for?

Ooh yes, I remember. Excellent band, reminds me of Bill for some reason.
I've probably sorted it now but it's been nice listening to obscure industrial for the last few days. Tis for the Gas Organ performance this Friday - mebbe see you there?

Sadly not, we wanted to come but we're both turbo skint after Venice. It looks like a really cool event though, break a leg etc. ! :)

Well yes, of course she does. Diamanda could kick Conan's butt without breaking a sweat.

Mebbe Coil or CoH for the abstracty soundscape stuff (I'm sure there is a little light in there somewhere).

Am currently working with various tracks off 'how to destroy angels' but was hoping for something with a bit more melancholy/hopeful/pleasantness running through it. CoH might work though.

Have you heard any Dive / Dirk Ivens? The first Dive album has got both menacing and haunting elements to it. Hmm may be too menacing ... and the entire Ectopia album (JG Thirlwell aka Steroid Maximus) may have some of the elements you're looking for. May be too orchestral / not enough menace though!

Haha, got menace sorted, am sadly lacking in the positive/pretty bits of sound! Orchestral is good, thanks for the inspiration :)

Pretty much the whole album Venice by Fennesz might work well for the prettier but still dark abstract stuff. Also Zan Lyons has a great selection of stuff, hard to get hold of though.

Think I have it sorted now - Coil, SPK and Deutsch Nepal, and oddly the Solaris soundtrack. I don't know Fennesz, will check it out. Thanks!

edit: ooh, he's done work with Ryuichi Sakamoto, whose work I love. Jolly exciting.

Good lord! You are a wonderful gentleman, and I now feel bad for never emailing you. So am I to understand that these tracks didn't exist prior to today? If so I am humbled. If not then I am merely thankful in the extreme.
I shall get downloading.
